Dougie was co-artistic director of Lîla between 2011 and 2019, composing music for all productions in this time.

Dougie’s career as a sound artist started in 2008, becoming a freelance composer and sound designer immediately after finishing University - and he’s never looked back. It is a career that has taken him all over the world and introduced him to some truly inspiring people. Dougie’s music has been in award winning dance and theatre productions, BBC productions, short films, animations, National Trust audio walks, and sound installations.

“I was Co-Artistic Director of Lîla Dance for 10 years, working collaboratively with Abi and Carrie, on some truly beautiful and meaningful works which I will forever be proud of.”

— Dougie Evans

In addition to the his compositions for Lîla, other collaborations for dance and theatre include, Commotion Dance, Ieva Kuniskis, Joli Vyann, La Petite Mort Theatre, Floods of Ink, Tim Casson, Stopgap Dance, Yael Flexer & Nic Sandiland, The Ballet Boyz, Bootworks Theatre Collective, The Mayakaras, Platform-K, Micadanses, Indepen-dance, Aya Kobayashi, Ludus Dance, KJ L Mortimer, and Jerrel Jackson Dance Company.

Dougie believe his ability to mix recordings of everyday sounds and real instruments into his work is what sets him apart from other composers and sound designers. His work, whether it’s a soundtrack for a show or an installation, always aims to transport the audience so that they really feel like they are in a fictional world, even if that world is abstract or electronic. The use of familiar sounds in sometimes unfamiliar ways has become his trademark sound design.
