Natalie is the Lighting Designer for The Hotel Experience creating an imaginative and flexible design suitable for theatre and rural venues.

As a professional design member of the Association of Lighting Designers (ALD), lighting credits include design for contemporary choreographers Liz Aggiss, Ben Wright, Yael Flexer and Nigel Charnock.

Her most recent designs have included Flexer & Sandiland’s dance works Disappearing Acts (2016) and Curiouser (2019), concert drama Breaking the Rules by The Marian Consort with Gerald Kyd (toured 2015-2019), musician Chagall van-den-Berg’s Calibration European tour (2017), Ceruleo’s concert drama Burying the Dead (2018), Lîla Dance Company’s The Hotel Experience (2018) and Thomas Guthrie's production of Monteverdi's opera L'Orfeo (2017 and 2019).

Natalie frequently lights for non-theatre spaces and touring productions, seeking solutions to bring the atmosphere, elegance and voice of light as an integral part of performance wherever that might be.

Natalie’s passion for light has led to her to PhD research exploring the implications of digital light. You can read more about her research and find a gallery of design work at pitchblacklighting.co.uk

“When working on The Hotel Experience, I was able to not only respond to the ideas that were developing among the Lîla team during R&D, but I also felt invited and encouraged to propose my own ideas and references. Such an exciting way to work, with huge potential for developing lighting as a movement practice.”
